Our Story

Brandon and Kelsey Vanderstine started the Playhouse Theatre with a mission to create a space that combines live theatre and film. They believe blurring the lines between the two will enhance the creativity and collaboration in our community.

Brandon’s passion lies heavily in film production. After five years as a Video Producer for Apple in Austin, Texas, he moved back to Springfield to produce commercials, films, and corporate video.

Kelsey has a passion for live performance. After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in Script Writing and a minor in Performance, her path led her into corporate design work.

The Playhouse concept began after Kelsey’s performance in “Miss Murder” (2019, Austin, TX). Two weeks before the performance, the venue canceled, forcing the theater company to find another space. This experience demonstrated the need for dedicated, flexible performance spaces for community and avant garde theatre.

Fast forward to 2026 - after a decade of marriage, Brandon and Kelsey finally took the leap to build a business around their passions. They hope the Playhouse becomes a staple in Downtown Springfield and that it has many years of laughter and emotions ahead of it.
